An ENT specialist or a Ear, Nose and Throat doctor specializes in diagnosing medical conditions of the neck and head, offering medical advice or surgical options to alleviate the situation.

Ear problems may include hearing problems, ear infections, balance disorders, tinnitus, and cranial nerve disorders. Problems that can affect the nose include allergies, problems in swelling, and general appearance of the nose. Throat problems are larynx diseases, esophagus diseases, voice disorders, swallowing disorders and disorders of the upper aero-digestive tract. A doctor of Ear Nose and Throat may practice in one of the several sub specialties like head and neck, facial plastics, neuro-otology, rhinology, pediatrics and laryngology.

Hearing loss is common in elderly adults, people who have faced trauma to the ear, ear infection or exposure to high decibel sound for a long time. Ringing in ear or tinnitus is a common side effect of hearing loss.

In case the ENT diagnosis hearing loss he or she may prescribe the use of a hearing aid which will help you hear properly. Ear infections and ear pain may be caused because of sore throat, colds that have cause an inner ear infection and respiratory infections. All these problems can be treated at Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) hospitals.
