Americans Would Rather Travel Than Pay High Costs

Affordable, quality care apparently trumps the commitment to travel. Approximately 50 million uninsured Americans are choosing medical tourism rather than pay for medical care in the US.

Cataract Surgery

With age; the crystalline lens of the eye changes and progressively turns opaque. This is known as a Cataract and slowly causes blindness. It is the most common cause of blindness and is usually very common among the elderly. It is easy to detect and treat.

Cataract surgery is the most common way to treat advanced cataracts. It is safe and easy and mostly performed as an outpatient surgery. There are two types of surgeries – Phacoemulsification and Extracapsular Cataract Extraction (ECCE). In both procedures, an ophthalmologist removes the opaque lens and replaces it with an artificial plastic lens. Both processes are suture-less although sutures are required for large ECCE incisions. ECCE surgery is also often performed with the help of liquid nitrogen (Cryoextraction).
