China Medical Tourism

People traveling abroad for healthcare has become a thriving business for several Asian economies, and China is the latest destination hoping to capitalize on this growing phenomenon.  Medical tourism is a $40 billion worldwide industry, and China believes it can attract droves of foreign patients because of its affordable healthcare costs, expert physicians and specialists, modern technology, and multi-lingual medical personnel.

Medical travelers are heading to China for specialties like cancer treatments, cardiology, orthopedics, and of course Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the alternative healing philosophy that employs acupuncture and ancient herbal remedies.  And the Chinese healthcare system is progressive, leading the Asian advance in stem-cell research and therapies.

The potential for China as a medical-travel destination is outstanding because in addition to having an advanced medical infrastructure, the country is of course one of the world’s great tourist destinations and combining great healthcare with a wonderful vacation is what medical tourism is all about.
